Saker’s ghost army was never meant to be, and now it’s wrecking havoc with the fabric of the universe. Stuck with Acton’s bones, Bramble longs to see him again, even as a ghost, as the strange love she bears for him drives her onwards.

Freeman has gone beyond fulfilling all promises from the first book; a great epic tale not like any other. It is heart breaking and stirring, and readers will never feel a tinge of disappointment. Savour it, in all its beauty and its sorrow. It’s so hard to put into words how enjoyable this series has been, but books like this are not common. It’ll put you in mind of such greats as Kate Forsyth or Jennifer Fallon.

Yes, Acton did murder the original inhabitants of the eleven domains and steal their land, and for that you feel some of Saker’s anger and desire for justice, even if not agreeing with how he goes about it. How is Ash expected to work with Action, giving him speech when he is the one who made his people despised?

But Bramble, a daughter of two worlds who was never meant to be here anyway, is torn for her duty, her loyalty and her love. Most readers probably thought that Bramble and Ash would get together in the first or second book – that would have been the traditional, clichéd way to go. But Freeman is much more than that.

This will leave you feeling full of satisfaction, all that time dedicated to reading it was more than worth it. You’ll be left drooling for whatever she comes up with next, because you just know it’ll be brilliant, well thought out, executed perfectly and just fantastic!
